Exiting the stairwell, David went about searching around in the only way - or most natural way, at least - he know how: with his eyes. And, Hammer, naturally, used his ears. Yet as the other teen spoke, Hamm's attention and eyes were turned away from him, towards a dark hallway which appeared empty but it was simply a trick of the shadows that made it appear so. Something... was making noise on this floor. Suddenly, Real Hip-Hop burst onto the scene, almost as if he had ignored David's words entirely, both he and Stand looking towards that darkened corridor. "David... I hear voices... Listen." RHH quickly floats over to David and cups his ears, enhancing his hearing many times over, while filtering out excess sound as not to blow his eardrum out completely. What must've seemed like a strange move on Hammer's part became clear in moments when the sound of a not far off dialog filled his ear canal.
'"So... uhh... Was your letter messed up as well?"
'"So... uhh... Was your letter messed up as well?"
Of course, he began to understand quickly enough once he heard the amplified voice that RHH had locked on to...
"Wait...is that...?" the male pondered aloud, raising an eyebrow as he rubbed his chin in a cautious manner. Despite being obviously familiar to him, he couldn't, for the life of himself, place a name on the voice itself...until, just like Hammer, visions of the battle with the Cutter began to flow through his mind like a river, with his memory finally catching up to him as he snapped a finger to show that he finally knew who was behind the voice.
"Yep, no doubt about it...that's Jacob alright. Explains the noises from earlier too, all things considered. Who's he talkin' to though? Whoever it is must be a stranger..." he whispered to Hammer. "Or maybe it's that Cairo guy? Sounds like it's comin' from about the same direction that I saw him goin' in, so that's probably who he's talking to."
Either way, Hammer seemed determined to find out for himself just who it was that Jacob had found himself speaking with, and David had no choice but to tag along with him and find out too. All things considered, it'd've been dangerous for David to split up from Hammer at this point. Way too many vantage points for an ambush, and he still had a feeling of uneasiness that seemed to have been originating from this place. Hammer's ability was great for sniffing out an enemy ambush, so it gave both David and the rest of the group the edge when it came to outsmarting any enemies that might've been hanging around here. All in all, it was just safer--and smarter--to stay with him.
After making a few turns and rounding a few corners, both David and Hammer had arrived upon the spot where they had heard Jacob speaking to the as-of-yet unidentified person, with both of their backs towards David and Hammer. The former, immediately taking note of the placement of both objects and the people around him, started to walk forward a bit and strafed to the side, positioning himself behind a nearby display that provided both an ample amount of cover and was close enough to both Jacob and the stranger that they were within First of the Year's range. After taking a moment to look at Hammer and give him a sign to stay where he was--farther back, and likely out of reach of the potential enemy, and in a good position to use his distance-based Stand--David pocketed both hands and emerged slightly from behind the aforementioned display, taking on a relaxed tone and stance as he did so.
"Hey Jacob! Good to see you here! Who's your friend? They someone you brought along, or are they just here to visit the museum?" he asked, ready and primed to, at a moment's notice, unleash First of the Year's primary ability in order to create an opening for himself...or for Hammer, if the situation warranted it.
