”Hey, now, what did I tell you about blaming others, yea? Besides, I think it fits you; you could use a bit of…flava in your life, homez.”
It wasn't until the two finally made it outside that David would've finally released his lock on Hammer's neck, the teen making sure to give the other a playful sort of 'push' as he did so, though he pocketed his hands soon afterward. He had a grin on his face following this exchange, though it quickly began to fade from his face once he turned his head back to Feelgood Inc., the male taking on a much more serious demeanor as he mentally began to wonder just what it was that Hammer wanted from the detective. Revenge or actual monetary compensation seemed much more likely than anything else that David could think of, and he actually thought that the former would be a bit more likely than the latter, all things considered.
The teen, rather than wonder about it, instead turned his head back around and opened his mouth to speak, prepared to ask his companion about his intentions when, suddenly, Yorke emerged from the building, no Dr. Feelgood in tow. That...could've meant a lot of different things, actually, but David quickly decided not to dwell on the matter. What happened between Yorke and the good doctor was their business, and the teen figured that things would go much smoother if he just let these secrets stay buried.
And held his gaze for a few moments… before… ”As I said before, I am the sort to do what needs to be done, and make no apologies for it. I could not then judge you for doing the same. Yet… you acquired our help through trickery and clever manipulations and ended up involving myself and my man David in a dangerous fight we had nothing to do with. Also, because you felt you had to…” Wherever Meryl stood, Hammer gave her a pondering eye. ”…to save someone special to you.” Hammer took one more step into Dct. Yorke’s space; the two – teen and adult – were almost face-to-face now….height willing. ”But, that doesn’t mean you don’t have a debt to pay…and you will pay it.”
Removing one hand from his pocket, he raised it up slowly, before lowering it with brazen disregard for what he was pointing it. In this case, not at Dct. Yorke, but rather passed him. At the Hot Dog stand! ”One Coney Island hot dog with the works for my boy Dave! I know him to be a proud Stand master, so he would never ask; but this battle had to of tired him; and I happen to know he missed a meal to meet me here on time; plus, even without Real Hip-Hop, I could hear his stomach rumbling during the fight. So, then, Dct. Yorke, that is how you will pay us back.” Hammer rubbed the scuff of his chin. ”And, don’t skimp on the chili. Old Dude.” Well!

As Hammer spoke, David couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and leave his mouth agape as he looked at the other teen with a bit of shock in his face. Out of all the things that Hammer could've wanted as "payment" for their services earlier, this was what he had in mind the whole time? He was...he was...
...not as bad as David thought!
"Don't forget the chili!" David said alongside Hammer, despite the difference of phrasing and omission of the "Old Dude" bit. He couldn't help but laugh a bit at this, partially because of the detective's reaction to it all, and partially because of the absurdity of the situation as a whole. Still, once Yorke returned with the hot dogs, David could do little more than take one of them for himself and proceeded to wolf the thing down, chilli and all.
"Heh, I owe you one. It's 'bout time I got back to my own place though, some of the other guys are probably gonna start wonderin' where I am soon. Apparently, I was entertainin' myself at a 'haunted house' for that last couple of hours..." David said, holding out a closed fist towards Hammer as he waited for the latter to meet his fist with his own. "I'll catch you around, yeah?"
And, with that, David wiped his mouth, pocketed his hands, and started to walk off, waving farewell to his companions--new and old--as he began the long trek back to the Scrapyard. In hindsight, he probably could've gotten one of the people he was walking away from to just drive him back there, but by the time he realized this, he was already some distance away from them. Oh well...he could use the exercise, right?
